The FSU softball team has made another addition through the transfer portal, signing catcher/infielder Kaiyah Ratu. The Seminoles announced the addition on Wednesday, and the move likely completes their roster for the 2027 season.
She spent her freshman season at Temple College in Temple, Texas, a junior college program. She ended the year hitting .381 with 19 home runs, 61 RBI, 12 doubles, and three triples in 54 games. Ratu slugged .856 with a .454 on-base percentage, walking 21 times and striking out just 10.
She was also excellent behind the plate, allowing just one passed ball and one error. She allowed 24 stolen bases, throwing out four runners.
Ratu is from Christchurch, New Zealand, and was the Canterbury, New Zealand Player of the Year.
Her dad, Stephen, played professional softball with FSU assistant coach Travis Wilson, according to FSU.
She adds some more power to FSU's lineup and depth at the catcher position, where the Seminoles return Anna Hinde and Bella Ruggiero. Ratu also has experience playing in big games, with Temp finishing as the D-I JUCO National Runner-up last year.
Ratu is the ninth player that head coach Lonni Alameda added over the offseason and the third transfer. The signed infield transfers Ella Dodge (Tennessee) and Nicole Edmiaston (Stetson), and high school prospects Missy Odom, McLaine Hudson, Kaylee Goodpaster, Ava Lorenzatti, Callee Leffler, and Addy Ware.
