Florida State is looking to bounce back after a 1-1 start following seasons where the Seminoles went 2-10 and 5-7, respectively, in 2024 and 2025. The national media isn't labeling this team as national title contenders, but they still do have some statistics that indicate 2026 could be a step in the right direction. One of them is SP+ from ESPN.
Bill Connelly at the entertainment giant explained in his most recent piece that SP+ is "a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football, not a résumé ranking."
With this in mind, the Seminoles have ranked as the No. 44 team out of 138. Offensively, the Seminoles are ranked at No. 49 overall with
a score of 29.5, and defensively, they are ranked at No. 45 with a score of 21.5.
Florida State is the ninth-best ACC team by SP+, behind No. 4 Miami Hurricanes, No. 19 SMU Mustangs, No. 23 Louisville Cardinals, No. 28 Virginia Tech Hokies, No. 29 Virginia Cavaliers, No. 36 Pittsburgh Panthers, No. 40 Clemson Tigers, and No. 41 NC State Wolfpack. The Wolfpack are the biggest ACC riser in terms of SP+ this week.
The Seminoles continue their season in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 19 against the Alabama Crimson Tide, SP+'s No. 10 team. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be on ABC.
