Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters on Wednesday. He recalled the infamous pregame incident with Travis Kelce and Justin Tucker ahead of the 2023 AFC Championship Game.
"I mean, we (Justin Tucker) haven't had a lot of conversations because he's obviously on the (Baltimore) Ravens and I was on the Chiefs," said Mahomes, "But it wasn't like we ever had any beef or anything like that. I think at that moment it was just competitors being competitors, and it was a big moment for everybody's career, and you're playing the AFC Championship Game. He's been a big-time kicker for a long time."
A video released shortly before kickoff of the 2023 AFC Championship Game initially made it look like Mahomes and Travis Kelce were
bullying then-Ravens kicker Tucker during warmups.
"Me and Trav (Travis Kelce) were obviously competing, and we wanted to go out there and win. And that stuff happened," said Mahomes, "But then you move on from that. I mean, at the end of the day, we're just playing a game, and you want to compete, and you want to win. But it wasn't like we had some long-standing beef that carried over after the game. We won that game, and then I was on to the Super Bowl, so there's nothing hostile, I guess you would say, moving forward from that."
The Chiefs notably defeated the favored Ravens on the road, setting the stage for their Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers. Tucker now joins Kansas City and could play a role in their latest Super Bowl run.
