Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters upon his arrival at Missouri Western State University on Friday. He revealed a crucial update regarding quarterback Patrick Mahomes' recovery and status heading into training camp.
"I don't think it will be (a different camp). We'll see about games and all that once we get there, said Reid. "But right now, we're just going to take it day by day and see how he (Patrick Mahomes) does. But he's been given the clearance (to practice)."
Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL late during the Chiefs' Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The surgery was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys' team physician. He repaired Mahomes' left knee last December, shortly after the injury.
"Well,
he's (Mahomes) been up here every day and doing his thing and rehabbing. I've mentioned before how much time he spent. If anybody spent time doing this thing the right way, he's it," said Reid. "So we appreciate that. He's been given clearance by the doctors to work, and they're pretty comfortable with that. But again, keeping an eye on him."
There haven't been any decisions on whether Mahomes will play in the preseason, as the Chiefs are still targeting a Week 1 start against the Denver Broncos on September 14.
