Kenneth Walker has been the Kansas City Chiefs' most valuable player through the first quarter of the 2026 NFL regular season.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP has led the Chiefs to a 4-0 start and led the league in rushing yards before Kansas City's Week 5 bye, registering 537 rushing yards in four games.
While it's early in the season, Walker's sensational start has put him on pace to rush for over 2,000 yards, an accomplishment achieved by just 10 players in NFL history. If he can manage to continue at his historic rate, Walker even has a chance to break Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards.
The 25-year-old downplayed the possibility of breaking the single-season rushing record along with rushing for 2,000 yards.
"Honestly,
nah, I feel like when you get into that you start trying to do things out of [the] norm," said Walker in a one-on-one interview with Chiefs Wire's DJ Siddiqi. "So I really don't get into that. I'm really worried about winning and continuously being my best and making an impact on the team the best way possible."
The words from Walker are wise and impactful considering he already knows what it takes to win a Super Bowl. The fifth-year running back ran for 135 yards in the Super Bowl win, the most since Terrell Davis in Super Bowl XXXII. He has carried over that momentum into this season, rushing for a career-high 173 yards in the season-opening win over the Denver Broncos to go along with two touchdowns. Walker was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September.
"Always really just focus on what really matters," said Walker of the key to remaining even-keeled. "Just relax, recover, and get the body right (during the bye week), but when we go into weeks like the game, that's watching film, taking down notes, and knowing your opponent the best way possible, and also just working hard throughout the week to prepare yourself during the game. So ignoring the outside noise you're seeing."
The Chiefs will look to carry over their undefeated start when they host the winless Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.
