Kenneth Walker knows that he is a perfect fit for Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's offense.
The Super Bowl MVP is in the midst of his first season with the Chiefs and leads the league in rushing with 537 rushing yards through four games in Kansas City. Walker has made an immediate impact and has helped lead the Chiefs to a 4-0 start.
As Walker and the Chiefs enjoyed their bye week, the prolific running back took the time to detail the impact that Reid has had on his success this season in a one-on-one interview with Chiefs Wire's DJ Siddiqi.
"I feel like Coach Reid sees that I can do everything out of the backfield: run, block, catch," Walker explained. "It's great to be in that position knowing they rely on me in a certain way, and it's
a blessing to be here."
Walker's impact in the rushing department is known, but he's also contributing as a receiver. He notably tallied 10 catches for 61 receiving yards in a win over the Indianapolis Colts and had three catches for 18 receiving yards with a touchdown in a season-opening win over the Denver Broncos.
Reid, a renowned offensive mind who once coached Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers in the 1990s, is helping maximize Walker's skill set that wasn't previously featured with the Seattle Seahawks.
"Yeah, definitely," Walker said of Reid maximizing his skill set. "It's always great to be around someone that understands you. But he also expects the best out of you, so when we get to practice, he expects us to go 100% every time."
While everyone understands the greatness of Reid's coaching, they maybe don't understand that he has a likable personality off of the field. The 68-year-old stars in a number of commercials off of the field, including with his star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Reid stars in humorous State Farm commercials with Mahomes.
"Yeah, he definitely has humor," said Walker of Reid. "He'll be up there coaching, and then out of nowhere, he'll say, 'Check from Memphis.' Like pretty much make a joke about you in mid offensive meeting. It's cool to be around that. His personality is a cool personality. He's open to anything. You can talk to him about anything. So it's cool to be around him, and have a coach like that."
The star running back is teaming up with Orgain because he uses their organic plant-based protein powder. Walker details why he started using the product and why it stands out from other protein powder items out there.
“Before the partnership, I’ve always liked Orgain,” said Walker. “It’s been something I can rely on throughout my routine and my day-to-day diet. I always mention I don’t like to eat much. Orgain is real clean, and it helps me get through the day after workout and before workouts.
“They’re plant-based; usually, when you get plant-based — I’m not much of a fan when it’s plant-based, and it’s not the best tasting –but Orgain, to me, you can’t even tell that it’s plant-based. It’s also not too chunky when I mix it up and everything. But it’s just perfect. It’s perfect for me. It’s perfect for my routine, and I’m gonna continuously use it.”
