Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke with reporters on Thursday. He reacted to the lack of team sacks after four games, the only stat he cares about this season.
“It’s a step away; it’s a half of a second of getoff; it’s a quicker counter move if you really want to get down into the detail.” Said Spagnuolo. “Our guys have been there; would we like to have more sacks? Yes, but I still like the fact that we get the quarterback off the spot; we make him throw off time or off balance, and if we can keep doing that, that’s a good thing.”
During the Week 4 victory, the Chiefs pressured Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins on 40.4% of his dropbacks.
“We all want (sacks), but it’s a stat,” said Spagnuolo. “You know the stat I
like? The stat that we harp on is the one stat that helps our football team win the game, and that’s points allowed.”
The Chiefs are at the bottom of the league in stats through four games but are still undefeated. The wins column remains the only stat that matters to Spagnuolo.
