Head coach Andy Reid made the questionable decision to bench starting offensive lineman Kingsley Suamataia during the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos.
Suamataia — a former second-round pick — has proven to be a capable blocker at the left guard spot on Kansas City's front five, and Reid's last-minute decision to bench the ex-BYU Cougar surprised both fans and pundits alike.
When he was asked about the controversial lineup shuffle on November 2, Reid issued a bizarre response to reporters about his thought process, a second-hand quote of which was posted to Twitter by ESPN's top Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor:
Andy Reid's quote: “This is just between Kingsley & I. It’s not something that’s earth shattering. I’ll just keep it there.
… I didn’t say it was punishment, ever. This was just between Kingsley & I working some things out here. This isn’t punishment. I’ll leave it at that.” https://t.co/05PKHSGjqW

The logic behind Reid's decision to bench Suamataia remains completely opaque, and given that Kansas City is now reeling from a two-game losing streak, the Chiefs faithful could be forgiven for demanding a little more transparency from the legendary head coach ahead of the team's Week 9 tilt with the New York Jets.
