Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy spoke with reporters on Thursday. He addressed potentially more opportunities for standout rookie running back Emmett Johnson.
"Emmett (Johnson) will continue getting his reps just like he normally does. Emmett did an outstanding job of performing," said Bieniemy. "I thought Emmett made the most of his opportunities, and that's what you want out of any player. Anytime their number's called, making sure that you're ready for that challenge and you excel when that moment defines itself."
Johnson recently won the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week honor for Week 8. He recorded 143 scrimmage yards (15 rushing and 128 receiving) and one touchdown in the Week 8 divisional loss to the Denver Broncos. The
former Nebraska star has been a reliable complement to starter Kenneth Walker III.
The Chiefs are still using Johnson on special teams because he's proven effective when they need him. He has 20 carries for 77 yards and 14 catches for 237 yards through Week 8, heading into Week 9 against the New York Jets at Arrowhead Stadium.
