Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters on Thursday. He fired back at critics for the defensive line not getting a sack in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins.
"We're close, statistically-wise. You look at the numbers: the quarterback has been getting rid of the ball in 2.3 seconds," said Jones. "I don't care how good of a pass rusher you are; when they're throwing the ball that quick, it's tough for anyone. And when they do throw it long distance, it's more so boom protection, which you got seven, eight men in there protecting."
During last Sunday's victory over the Miami Dolphins, George Karlaftis intercepted a pass from Malik Willis after Jones batted the ball in the air in the fourth quarter. Jones' 40 passes defensed
are now tied for the second-most among defensive tackles since he entered the league in 2016. The unit, however, couldn't secure a sack in Week 3 on the Dolphins quarterback.
"So, it's like, the opportunity is going to come. I think don't waver from what we've been doing. We've done a lot of good. We put a lot of good on film," said Jones. "I think we stay committed to that and just find ways to get sacks out of it so y'all can stop writing about us in the media."
Jones hasn't tallied a sack yet this season but has accumulated 87.5 career sacks.
