The Kansas City Chiefs returned to action at Arrowhead Stadium for their Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos on Monday night. Before the highly anticipated contest, quarterback Patrick Mahomes received a special message from his family.
The Player's Tribune published an audio recording of Mahomes' children, Sterling, Bronze, and Golden, wishing their father well on his first game back since last season's injury. The short clip features the kids congratulating Mahomes on his rehab and excitement to see him return to the field healthy.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP was nine months removed from suffering the devastating knee injury that tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers last season. Dr. Dan Cooper, the Dallas Cowboys' team physician, performed the surgery to repair Mahomes' left knee last December, a day after the injury.
Consistent workouts and rehab throughout the offseason got Mahomes back faster than many expected. He spoke optimistically throughout the process, but he was the first to say he needed to play with his kids and support his wife, Brittany, through that challenging time.
Mahomes signed a massive contract extension to stay in Kansas City and continue his likely Pro Football Hall of Fame-bound career.
