Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jack Cochrane spoke with reporters after practice on Saturday at Missouri Western State University. He discussed his versatile role on the team's defense and increased competition at practice for spots on the depth chart.
"I mean it's kind of been my role (in the) last few years, and you know it's whatever I can do to help the team." said Cochrane, "So if that means going in, playing Sam, Will, Mike, you know just however I can help, and I take a lot of pride in being able to kind of play each of those spots and do well."
Cochrane was a standout performer in Week 16 last season against the Tennessee Titans, finishing with two tackles but also impacting the game with his intangibles. His breakout game was recognized
by Pro Football Focus, which graded it 74.4, the highest among Kansas City's players that week. He enjoys the competition in camp as players battle for a promising spot on the depth chart.
"Yeah, it's awesome. I mean, that's a competitive group, and you know we have a lot of guys that are playing good football," said Cochrane. "And right now, we're just trying to focus on the day-to-day and get better each day. Kind of let those things sort themselves out as camp goes on."
Cochrane has missed only four games since joining the Chiefs and has spent most of his time working under special teams coordinator Dave Toub. He has 62 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery in his 64 regular-season games played.
