Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea spoke with reporters after practice recently at Missouri Western State University. He praised the progress of wide receivers Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals in training camp.
"Cyrus (Allen) has come in, and he's taken the coaching. He's done a great job of working extremely hard and trying to concentrate on the things we've asked him to do," said O'Shea. "There is so much detail and small things that go into being successful as a receiver in this league. He has certainly tried to do the things we're asking him to do. It's been good to get him out there. I believe time on task; he'll just continue to get better. He certainly has done a lot of things positive because he has worked very hard."

City hired Chad O'Shea earlier in the offseason to serve as its new wide receivers coach. He notably spent years working with Edelman on the Patriots' staff from 2008 to 2018 under head coach Bill Belichick.
"Jalen (Royals) is another guy—like I said with the other guys I have mentioned, the receiver room has worked extremely hard. He is playing in a multiple-position role for us. He has some versatility because he is very smart mentally," said O'Shea. "So, we have moved him around the formation, and that's been a very positive thing for him because it's increased the amount of times he's out there on plays, and it obviously increases your value when you can do more for the team. It starts with mentally being able to handle those things."
O'Shea most recently worked for the Cleveland Browns as a wide receivers coach & passing game coordinator from 2020 to 2025. Allen finished his preseason debut against the Los Angeles Rams with 2 catches for 20 yards, and Royals also contributed 2 catches for 17 yards.
