This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with LSU Tigers college football head coach Lane Kiffin.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Kiffin, who stars in the new Dr Pepper Fansville commercial trailer for Season 9, discussed his role in the video, which plays off his offseason decision to leave Ole Miss for LSU and his efforts to make his mark on the program's culture. He also mentioned that former Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is supporting his alma mater.
"Well, we've got a lot of new players and new coaches, and so bringing it up has been really exciting. I just was in there earlier and realized, hey, shoot, we're getting ready to go into the ninth month here, and that's kind of crazy that it's been that long," said Kiffin,
"but there's been a lot to do, and so it's really exciting to have a new challenge like it. I like those things. I know people may have been critical of that, but you know, people choose to live their lives however they want, and I like new challenges and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. This has definitely done that."
Mathieu is a legend at LSU and a Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs who has spoken highly of Kiffin's hiring. Kiffin revealed that Mathieu isn't the only LSU alumnus supporting the school this season.
"Yeah, I mean, it just speaks to LSU how different it is everywhere else. You bring up the 'Honey Badger' (Tyrann Mathieu); you get nicknames like that. Everybody knows you, and so it's just amazing," said Kiffin. "The great players- Leonard Fournette was here yesterday, giving away the No. 7 jersey. Patrick Peterson was on a Zoom with them yesterday, and it's just an amazing place. Part of why we came here was to be around this place and those players and be able to put together teams to continue the unbelievable history here of great teams."
