Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill spoke with reporters on Friday. He revealed a unique quality of this season’s team and the different personnel looks the defense has given through 3 games.
“Well, I think a coordinator’s looking at personnel, and if we roll dime (personnel) out there,” said Tranquill, “they’re probably expecting that we can get in certain looks, but if we leave a nickel (personnel) package out there with two linebackers, they’re probably not expecting us to roll our coverage sometimes, and we still do that and so, able to present some looks even out of nickel personnel.”
The Chiefs defense rebounded in a Week 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins, showing a defining quality after giving up over 30 points to the Indianapolis
Colts the week before.
“Resilient. It’s cool to see how many new guys have come in through free agency or the draft and how quickly guys have meshed,” said Tranquill. “So, I’ve had experiences in the NFL where that takes some time, takes some games, can even take a few seasons. And to see guys come in right away and click right away and click with our culture and the way we do things has been cool to see.”
Tranquill has recorded 9 combined tackles over 3 games this season. His leadership will be needed in an expected hostile environment on the road against the undefeated Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday.
