Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Xavier Nwankpa spoke with reporters after practice on Thursday. He shared his reaction to making the 53-man roster after going undrafted.
"I felt super blessed. Obviously, that's what I wanted to do- make it a tough decision, and obviously, they made a decision to keep me." Nwankpa said, "So, I'm pretty ecstatic and just blessed to be here and just keep working."
During his last college season at Iowa, Nwankpa finished with 76 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 interception, and was named third-team All-Big Ten by conference coaches.
"All you can say is just put your best foot forward every day." Nwankpa said, "Try and be your best self and really implode yourself in the defense and the special teams, whatever
part of the ball you're on, but really try and stand out on special teams the best way you can, and then that'll be the easiest way for you to make the team and try and carve out a role defensively."
Nwankpa ended the preseason with 4 total tackles but earned respect from the coaching staff and teammates for his performance in offseason workouts and training camp.
