Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Tuesday, addressing rookie offensive lineman Kahlil Benson's potential starting role in Week 1.
"Yeah, we'll see where all that goes. I'm not telling you that, but we're comfortable with Kahlil (Benson) on either side," said Reid. "I mean, he's been playing the left side, so feel comfortable with that. We'll just see. We'll end up playing the five best guys, and right now, he's one of them."
The injury to Josh Simmons continues to be monitored, making it likely that Benson will start at tackle alongside veteran tackle Jaylon Moore.
"Well, the guy playing left (tackle) is Kahlil (Benson). So, I mean, he's been the one over there. You guys are out at every practice; you see it," said
Reid. "He's the one that's been in there, going and doing a nice job with it. So, if he has to be the left tackle, then he's left tackle. We roll with it. I mean, that's just how it goes."
Reid expressed his confidence in the undrafted rookie following his rough outing against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"So, (Benson) he's a big kid that—he's got good feet, and he's strong, good hands. He normally doesn't make the same mistake twice, which I mentioned before is an important quality to have, and he's tough," said Reid. "So, it's just he didn't have a whole lot of reps under his belt, obviously, at this level, being a rookie. But he's very willing, and if he has to step in there and play, which it looks like he probably will, we feel comfortable with that."
Benson was a member of the Indiana Hoosiers' 2025 CFP National Championship roster. He saw action in 49 games in college, splitting stints at Indiana (2022-2023, 2025) and with the Colorado Buffaloes (2024).
