Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke with reporters after practice on Wednesday at Missouri Western State University. He agreed with head coach Andy Reid's intensity to bounce back from last season's disappointment.
"Yeah, pretty much like you would think Andy (Reid) would. Listen, we're all pretty prideful people. And we got really used to winning here, and last year was a little different, and we're trying not to go through that again," said Spagnuolo. "I think every one of us, Andy included, and from Andy on down, I think everybody's trying to step it up a notch."
The Chiefs suffered their first losing season during Reid's tenure as head coach, ending several winning streaks. He has instilled pride throughout the roster
and coaching staff heading into the 2026 season.
"His model of mindset, I think, is really important," said Spagnuolo, "And then he has a unique way of filtering that into his leaders, the Patricks (Mahomes), the Travises (Kelce), the Chrises (Jones), the Nicks (Bolton). And you can kind of see that making its way through the team."
Spagnuolo has a long history working with Reid dating back to their time with the Philadelphia Eagles. The defense will be counted on again for significant contributions if the Chiefs plan to return to Super Bowl contention.
