Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on Wednesday. He shared key details about injured starting left tackle Josh Simmons ahead of the Week 4 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.
"As far as the injuries go, Josh (Simmons) is the only one, and he is making progress. He's had a bulging disc in his lower back, and it's kinda hindered the strength of his leg," said Reid. "He's working through it. He's here every day, grinding away, and we didn't have to make any roster moves, so we didn't put him on IR (Injured Reserve) or anything, so it's all worked out good that way. But the positive is that he is making progress and getting stronger, which matters with those backs, as we all know. Backs can be a little tricky."
The second-year
offensive lineman hasn't been active this season, but not being placed on IR is a positive for his recovery. He's unlikely to play this Sunday, although Reid hasn't officially made a ruling. The Chiefs have a Week 5 bye that could change things on the other side.
Last season, Simmons started at Week 1 on Patrick Mahomes' blind side. He gave up just one sack in the first five games of the season. He missed four games to handle a family matter and later underwent season-ending wrist surgery.
