Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters after the Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos. He reacted to the controversial late-game penalty on offensive lineman Jaylon Moore that cost Kansas City the game.
“It couldn’t have been big, but it was called,” said Mahomes. “At the end of the day, you have to go with whatever is called, but a lot of times in those big moments, the little stuff doesn’t get called like that.”
Kansas City was forced back five yards, eliminating the game-winning touchdown reception from Rashee Rice. The next play ended in a game-sealing sack, and the Chiefs left with a 28-24 loss to the Broncos.
In the disappointment, Mahomes passed for 321 yards and three touchdowns. He has 49 career games with at
least three touchdown passes, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Dan Marino’s 48 games for the most by a player in his first 10 seasons in NFL history.
The false-start call was one of 11 penalties totaling 105 yards and contributed to the Chiefs’ loss.
