This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with 'The Breakfast Club' on Netflix co-host, mental health advocate, and Radio Hall of Fame member Charlamagne tha God.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Charlamagne discussed the Mental Wealth Alliance ahead of the 6th Annual Mental Wealth Expo on October 10th (World Mental Health Day), hosted at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He addressed whether the Kansas City Chiefs warrant taking over the slogan 'America's Team' from the Dallas Cowboys.
"Well, this year we're focusing on nothing but solutions. The last five years, we have been solution-based. Still, I think a lot of the conversations are literally just about eradicating the stigma and getting people to open up and be vulnerable about what
they're dealing with," said Charlamagne about this weekend's event, "But this year, it's really just all about solutions. We've been talking about eradicating the stigma, but now it's really just about focusing on solutions. My good sister Devi Brown and I wanted to focus on this year: solutions."
The effects of mental illness spread beyond the individual and impact others; as Charlamagne explained, his motivation is to advocate for others.
"I had a friend who committed suicide in 2020, a really close friend, and then another good friend, my good sister Jas Waters, but situations I saw happening amongst Black men in the street made me think, man, I want to devote my life to healing," said Charlamagne, "Watching people even go through their grieving process when they lose loved ones through very traumatic events, like all of those different moments, I gotta devote my life to helping people heal, and it's really been my life's work."

Charlamagne has often described his loyalty to the Cowboys as a family tradition. He makes it clear that his father built that connection.
"I was born into it. My daddy is a Dallas Cowboys fan. His nickname is actually Cowboy. He is a big Dallas Cowboys fan right now, in my mother's house, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. All my brothers are Dallas Cowboys fans. He has a little club in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Club Cowboy," said Charlamagne. "My daddy is such a die-hard fan. After we won our fifth Super Bowl title in '93, he went and got a six-time Super Bowl champion tattooed on his arm, and I never forget that because I remember asking him, "But we only won five. He said, "I know, but I'm basically manifesting for next year. And I said, "Well, what if we don't win it? What if we don't win the sixth one? And then I said, "What if we only win seven? I don't think he thought that one through."
The Chiefs and Cowboys made history in television ratings last season, with their highly anticipated Thanksgiving Day matchup drawing 57.230 million viewers. It was the most-watched regular-season game ever and fueled debates over who is truly America's Team. Dallas won the game and is believed to have retained its long-standing slogan.
"The reason I still say they're America's team is that I don't think that there's a more die-hard fan base than the Dallas Cowboys. I mean, in reality, if it were based on winning, the (New England) Patriots would definitely have been America's team before the Kansas City Chiefs," said Charlamagne. "They're actually called the Patriots. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick definitely had a greater dynasty than Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, and they never became America's team. I think it's really just about the fan base. There's no more die-hard fan base in the NFL than the Dallas Cowboys."
Open to all ages, the free Mental Wealth Expo connects attendees with interactive panel discussions, re-centering resources, and healing spaces that will equip them with a game plan for regulation and recharging.
