Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is 22-5 after a regular-season bye, adding optimism to this Sunday's matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. He holds one of the highest post-bye winning percentages among head coaches with at least 10 games.
The NFL's winningest active head coach was 13-1 for the Philadelphia Eagles after a bye week from 1999–2012 and 9-4 for the Chiefs since 2013. He also holds a 6-2 record with Patrick Mahomes as his starting quarterback, including last season's road loss to the Denver Broncos.
Reid holds an .815 winning percentage when coming off a bye week, ranking second in NFL history behind only former assistant and current New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh. Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach turned NBC
Sports analyst Mike Tomlin ranks third on that all-time list.
The Chiefs host the Chargers, making them the third and final AFC West team they will meet for the first time this season. Last season, the Chargers swept the Chiefs in two notable games. Week 1 last year was the first NFL game in Brazil, while the second loss came in Week 15 at Arrowhead Stadium, when Mahomes went down with a season-ending knee injury.
