Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters upon their arrival at Missouri Western State University. They opened up about expectations for wide receiver Rashee Rice heading into training camp.
"He's (Rashee Rice) done a great job rehabbing up here," said Reid. "He's been up here the whole time, and then he'll be in and out here in the next couple of days, but he's been here throughout, yeah."
The former SMU star underwent surgery before he was sentenced to clean up debris in his right knee. The Chiefs' medical staff was able to treat Rice's knee after a judge's approval, as he was dealing with inflammation.
"He's (Rashee Rice) excited to get back out here. He's kind of a similar thing; he's ready
to play football again and just get out there and be with the guys. I've been rehabbing with him a lot. He's been in the building as much as I have, him and Omarr (Norman-Lott)," said Mahomes. "I hate that they're injured, but it's been good for me because you have guys you can work with and try to get better together. He's doing great. I've thrown it to him, he's caught. He's doing a lot of stuff he needs to do. I don't know if he'll be out on the field, but I know he's rehabbing and doing what he needs to be doing to be on the field whenever camp gets going."
Rice missed voluntary offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp; he finished the 2025 season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 10.8 yards per reception after missing the first six games due to suspension last season.
