Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy spoke with reporters after practice on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University. He opened up about his absence from training camp.
"Hope all is well. First and foremost, I want to say this: thank you, guys, for all the love, the support. Obviously, the unfortunate circumstances which took place is very hurtful in a way," said Bieniemy, "But on top of that, I just respect that you guys are respecting our privacy, and hats off to you. I also would like to say thank you to the Hunt family, the entire Chiefs family, for the outpouring, the love and the support that my family has received through this particular situation."
Bieniemy spent nine years as an assistant coach and coordinator with
Kansas City before leaving ahead of the 2023 season. In 2025, he was a key member of the Chicago Bears' NFC North championship team while serving as their running backs coach. He returned to the team last week ahead of the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams with a positive update on his wife's condition.
"She (Mia Bieniemy) is on a road to recovery. She is doing great. It's one of the main reasons why I'm back here because of her recovery. She is truly a soldier. She's a saint," said Bieniemy. It's been incredible to watch, but I know I was driving her and a bunch of family members crazy in the house. She was like, 'You have my blessing to leave.' So it was time to come back."
Bieniemy reclaims his role in Kansas City this season, replacing Matt Nagy, who is the new offensive coordinator for the New York Giants.
