Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters after the Week 4 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. He shared an emotional message for injured wide receiver Tyquan Thornton.
“It’s tough; those guys, they put in so much work. I was in that spot last year. Everybody puts in so much work to be out there and to play the game they love. One play can change your season.” Mahomes said, “For him, he’s put in all the time and all the work and had a tough play there. You hope for the best, but at the same time, you want to show him support. I know how it is when you’re in that position. It’s like the world’s closing in on you, and you want to make sure you have the support from your teammates there.”
According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport,
Thornton suffered a dislocated ankle that doctors put back into place Sunday after the game. He did make the plane with the team and will have a full evaluation Monday morning, along with a second opinion. He is out indefinitely, but in good spirits.
“He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had,” said Mahomes. “He truly is. He has a smile on his face every time that he’s in the building. So, we’re in his corner, and he knows that he has us behind him.”
Before leaving the game on a cart, Thornton was having a career day with 5 catches for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns.
