Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice spoke with reporters on Wednesday. He described the locker room's reaction to wide receiver Jalen Royals' first touchdown in a milestone Week 2 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
"Super excited. We always say, 'Well, Jalen (Royals), he's not really a loud person,' so when we see him, we tell him it's getting real loud in here," said Rice. "So when he scored the touchdown, we saw all his passion come out for the game. He was able to scream, and everybody was super excited for him. He's walking around smiling all day. He's talking in the meeting, so I think that's all he needed to open up."
Royals finished Week 2 with two receptions for six yards and one touchdown. He scored his first career touchdown on a one-yard
pass from Patrick Mahomes to take the lead, 24-20, in the third quarter. Royals' score capped off a 14-play drive.
"No, it didn't surprise us. He told us he was gonna do it, but you know we met up Friday after practice. We all had had dinner, and he walked in with a haircut," said Rice. "For a second, it took us a minute to realize who he was. Yeah, he came in looking like we call him the professor too. So now he really looks like the professor, and he's real comfortable. He looks good on him."
The former Utah State star had his first NFL reception during the Week 18 loss last season to the Las Vegas Raiders. He finished the year with two catches for four yards on three targets.
