The countdown to the regular season is underway, and the Kansas City Chiefs front office continues to make financial decisions to benefit the team's future.
According to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs are converting $18.535 million of offensive lineman Trey Smith's 2026 salary into a bonus to reduce his cap number by $12.5 million. Smith's cap number will increase by $6.18 million in each of the final two years of his contract.

Smith signed a $94 million extension with a $70 million guarantee during the 2025 offseason after initially being placed on the franchise tag. According
to Spotrac.com, his base salary in 2025 was $9,018,889. Kansas City also paid Smith $4,250,000 in signing proration and $245,278 in restructure proration.
Before Thursday's restructure report, Overthecap.com noted that Smith's total cap number for the 2025 season was $13,514,166. His salary accounted for 4.7 percent of the Chiefs' total cap space.
Smith is a two-time Pro Bowler and continues to be an anchor at guard on the Chiefs' offensive line.
