Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub spoke with reporters on Thursday. He revealed how the team decided between Harrison Butker and Justin Tucker before Week 9 against the New York Jets.
"Because (Harrison) Butker's our kicker. Butker, he's on our team, and we're paying Butker," said Toub. "And Butker has won a lot of football games for us. Butker is a champion. And he deserves the right to be exhausted on this thing, and we're going to exhaust every possibility with him."
Butker is 12-for-18 on field goals through 7 games played this season. He's also missed a PAT, fueling weekly speculation about his future as the Chiefs' kicker. In Week 8 against the Denver Broncos, he missed another costly field goal late in the game.
Tucker
didn't play last season but has plenty of experience: 13 NFL seasons, primarily with the Baltimore Ravens, and an 89.1% career field-goal percentage in 212 games. The Chiefs will move forward with Butker this Sunday for Week 9 against the New York Jets at Arrowhead Stadium.
