Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Mansoor Delane recently spoke with reporters. He shared lessons learned from a tough Week 7 matchup against Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
"Really just prepares me. I think there's great receivers on every team; you've just got to bring it, and you've got to prepare, and they're going to win some, you're going to win some," said Delane. "So just really having that short-term mentality, whether it's good or bad, and just having an expert mentality."
The reigning NFL offensive player of the year got the better of the impressive Chiefs rookie. Delane is using the experience as additional motivation as he looks to match up against the league's best wide receivers moving forward.
"Yeah, for sure.
I think some people may get discouraged from passes caught on them. But I told Coach (Steve) Spags (Spagnuolo), 'Man, put me in those tough situations.' I'm not asking for a cloud. I'm not asking for cover two. Go back out there and play man, and that's what we did," said Delane. "Like, a lot of teams are kind of scared to do that. But I feel like we didn't shy away from it. So, we learned from it, but at the same time, it's going to be times in my career that I'm going to better handle that stick, and I'm definitely going to learn from that."
Delane has recorded 17 total tackles (10 solo, 7 assisted), 1 interception, and 5 passes defended over 5 games in his rookie season.
