This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with Atlanta Falcons linebacker JD Bertrand.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Bertrand discussed his partnership with Guardian Sports and his recent donation of Guardian Caps to his alma mater, Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Georgia. He discussed his brief time as teammates with Kansas City Chiefs
linebacker Alohi Gilman while at Notre Dame."Aesthetically, I think it's at least gotten sleeker. That's always nice, and I think there is a big stigma. Like in football, you want to feel the best and dress the best, and a lot of people think that's a big thing in the game. And so I think that part has definitely helped," said Bertrand. "As for other players, it's funny, I actually get
a lot of questions, especially when I first started wearing it. I was one of the few in the league wearing it, and I mean, a lot of guys were just curious. I would say, and it's funny. A lot of guys also wear it in practice, but haven't really thought about wearing it in the game. I think this sparked some curiosity, and so I think it'll keep gaining more wearers over the next couple of years."
Guardian Sports announced before the season that the NFL had approved the Guardian Cap NXT 2.0 for use during games. Players are well receiving the Guardian Cap's new, sleeker look as an upgrade over the original. During the 2019 college football season, Beetrand was a freshman at Notre Dame, alongside then-teammate and team captain Gilman.
"My experience of being a teammate with Alohi (Gilman), I mean, there's something about Alohi, just like his leadership, the person he is, the work he puts in, and I think he makes every person feel like they could be best friends with him." said Bertrand, "I mean, it's a funny thing to say, but that's just who he is. And when I was a young guy there, he made sure we knew he cared about us and kept everything driving toward the end goal of winning as many games as we could. But I mean, Alohi definitely was someone that I looked up to and someone that made me feel very comfortable and tried to continue to teach me as he was there, even when I was just a young guy."
