According to veteran NFL beat writer Pete Sweeney, head coach Andy Reid has inexplicably elected to bench his starting left guard — former second-round pick Kingsley Suamataia — ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs' Week 8 matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Suamataia is set to be replaced by backup lineman Mike Caliendo.
The circumstances surrounding Suamataia's benching remain unclear. Sweeney confirmed in a post to his official Twitter account that the former BYU Cougar's absence from Kansas City's front five should be considered a "coach's decision."
Take a look at Sweeney's report on the situation, which was disseminated on social media shortly before kickoff on Sunday:
The Chiefs have confirmed it's a "coach's decision" on Kingsley Suamataia. Mike

While Suamataia has been relatively effective in his role as a starting lineman for Kansas City, the Chiefs' offensive line has put together inconsistent performances during the team's last few games, so a last-minute shakeup by Reid could pay dividends against Denver's outstanding pass rush and defensive backfield.
