Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters on Thursday. He addressed the team's spirit ahead of the AFC West showdown against the Denver Broncos.
"The energy is good. As much as we want to go undefeated, it happens. It happens. This year, last year, we were sitting at this point; we lost a couple of games," said Jones. "It's all about, more so, it's all about perspective, how you look at something. It's not about how many punches you can give; it's about how many punches you can take and keep going. So, it's another opportunity for us to go into another hostile environment and show up as a team."
The Chiefs' undefeated 5-game winning streak ended last Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Jones referenced an important
message from team owner Clark Hunt about winning the AFC West.
"Well, I mean, you look at the makeup of the AFC West, going into last year. These games are always competitive, just for the rankings of the AFC West, most importantly. I think Clark Hunt talks about it during his yearly meeting on wanting to win the AFC West, wanting to win the AFC division. I think it starts with the division of the AFC West," said Jones, "We've got some really, really competitive teams, really great coaches in our division. If you're able to stack these games up later in the year, it counts towards something special. I think for us, any time we're able to play a division game, it counts as two because of the competition we have, but also the excitement of the game and the history that these games carry."
The Chiefs defense secured four sacks in Week 1 against the Broncos. They'll try to replicate that performance this Sunday in Denver and maintain their division lead.
