The Kansas City Chiefs officially placed veteran wide receiver Tyquan Thornton on their injured reserve list on October 12.
Thornton had been one of Kansas City's most productive pass-catchers during the Chiefs' first four games of the 2026 NFL regular season and seemed to be gaining momentum before he sustained a serious lower-body injury during the team's Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
A former second-round pick, Thornton has become one of Patrick Mahomes' favorite targets in the passing game and will miss at least four games due to his injury.
Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen announced Kansas City's decision to place Thornton on its injured reserve list in a post to his official Twitter account:
As Tyquan Thornton heads to IR,
the Chiefs will elevate Cam Jones to the roster, per Coach Reid. Justin Watson was signed to the practice squad.

With Thornton sidelined for the foreseeable future, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid should be expected to feature up-and-coming wideouts Cyrus Allen, Jalen Royals, and Nikko Remigio more during Kansas City's upcoming matchups.
