Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton spoke with reporters after practice on Thursday at Missouri Western State University. He explained his motivation for returning to Kansas City as a free agent during the offseason.
"I would say the history of the organization. They play a lot of clean football here. They play at the highest level," said Thornton. "Obviously Patrick Mahomes, and working with Andy Reid, the coaching staff — one of the best coaching staff in the league, so why not Kansas City?"
Thornton was counted on heavily to start the season with the absence of Rashee Rice for the first six games due to suspension and Xavier Worthy's injury. He believes he can improve on last year in a more solidified role in 2026.
"I am very confident,
but it's also a process," said Thornton. "It's day two, so coming out here and working with the rest of the offense and putting our feet together and just working."
The former 2022 NFL Draft second-round pick finished the 2025 season with 19 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns. He was acquired at the end of the 2024 season as a developmental player who could take on a bigger role on the team after not getting significant opportunities with the New England Patriots.
