Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce spoke with reporters after the Week 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He praised offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's return and his influence on the offense's early-season success.
"The play-action game is just a piece of it," said Kelce. "Obviously, the running game, getting the offensive line comfortable, getting downhill and really trying to get after the line of scrimmage and moving the line of scrimmage. And then on top of that, just being in sync with 15 (Patrick Mahomes) back there."
The Chiefs offense has shown a level of balance they haven't displayed in years, thanks to the addition of Kenneth Walker III and the return of Eric Bieniemy.
"I think Bieniemy coming from Chicago, with an even more
downhill running game than we've had in years, plus Kenneth Walker and EJ (Emmett Johnson) coming in and getting downhill and those yards early, helps a lot," said Kelce. "But just being in sync with the offense, knowing the intentions of the play caller, and knowing that Coach Reid is going to dial us up at the right time."
Kelce had two receptions for 59 yards and one touchdown. He has caught 61 touchdown passes from Mahomes in his career, the most touchdown connections between a quarterback and a pass catcher in franchise history.
