According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, former Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Melvin Smith Jr. was waived by the Tennessee Titans on September 10.
Smith, a former Southern Arkansas Muleskinner standout, initially signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2025 and competed for a spot on the team's 53-man roster before Kansas City waived him during its roster cuts on August 30.
He quickly caught on with the Titans, who claimed him off waivers on August 31.
Tennessee's decision to waive Smith in Week 1 was announced by Wilson in a post to his official Twitter account:

While it is still unclear if a defensive-back-needy team has already put
in a claim for Smith, franchises around the NFL will almost certainly consider offering the promising ex-Chiefs defender a new practice squad deal if he manages to reach free agency at any point during the 2026 regular season.
