On October 24, the Kansas City Chiefs officially placed second-year running back Brashard Smith on their injured reserve list.
The move comes just a day before Kansas City is set to face the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on 'Sunday Night Football' in Week 7 of the 2026 NFL regular season.
Smith managed to participate in the Chiefs' practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, but was sidelined for Kansas City's workouts on Friday, and officially ruled out for the team's tilt with Seattle.
The Chiefs officially announced Smith's placement on injured reserve in a post to their official Twitter account:
We have signed Practice Squad player RB Jaydn Ott to an active roster contract. We have activated LB Cooper McDonald from Reserve/Injured. We have activated Practice Squad player WR
Justin Watson via Standard Elevation. We have placed RB Brashard Smith on Reserve/Injured. pic.twitter.com/fZX4YNjghi

The former SMU Mustang — who joined Kansas City as a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft — has played in a modest role for the Chiefs this season, mostly as a contributor on special teams.
Stay tuned to find out how Kansas City will compensate for Smith's absence in Week 7.
