Kansas City Chiefs running back Emari Demercado spoke with reporters earlier in the week. He discussed his role in the running backs room while competing to secure his spot on the 53-man roster.
"I mean, obviously we always talk about pass proing (protection) so that's been my thing," said Demercado, "But, as far as the (RB) room, that's what you want. You want to compete. That brings out the best ofeverybody in the room."
Demercado was a third-string running back last season with the Arizona Cardinals and for most of his tenure behind James Conner and Trey Benson. He is facing plenty of competition on the roster to solidify a spot behind starter Kenneth Walker III but remains focused on building up the position group and regaining respect around
the league.
"With Kenneth (Walker) leading us off, everybody is going to respect him," said Demercado. "Great player, and then we all have to follow that. We want it to be no dropped ball no matter who's in the game."
In 13 games played last season, Demercado finished with 312 rushing yards on 44 carries and 101 yards receiving on 13 catches for a touchdown.
