Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Mansoor Delane spoke with reporters after the Week 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins. He reflected on his first career interception in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.
"Yeah, that was crazy. It felt like kind of unreal. Three plays, I get a pick," said Delane. "Like I'm thinking I'm going to get like a pick every four or five plays. (laughter) That's not the case, but it was a great moment. Monday Night Football, but that's in the past. Now we're trying to get some more picks."
Delane recorded his first NFL interception after picking off a pass from Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. He is the first Chiefs player since teammate L'Jarius Sneed in 2020 (Week 1 vs. HOU) to intercept a pass in his first career NFL game.
Delane revealed his frustration at not being able to play in Week 2, although he was technically active and available if needed.
"It was super hard. By the end of the day, I don't want to be a liability to the team. I had to go back," said Delane. "I got to a point where I couldn't really have a lot of strength in that shoulder, so I decided to go back.Just every week getting better with that shoulder and got to keep improving."
Delane is now one of six Chiefs players since 1970 to intercept a pass in their NFL debut. He recorded ten tackles during the Chiefs' Week 3 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
