Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with reporters after the Week 2 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He discussed the offense's efficiency through the first two games.
"It's fun for me, just him (Kenneth Walker) running the ball, our offensive line driving off the ball the way that they're driving off," said Mahomes. "It's making defenses have to account for that. I mean, if not, we're going to run the ball for 200 yards or whatever we did the week before, and so you want to be able to do it all."
The Chiefs have opened the season scoring over 30 points per game in two weeks. Mahomes credits the coaching staff for the improvements but still believes there were opportunities for more points.
"We showed today that we can
throw the ball downfield, we can play action, we can do that stuff, and we can still run the ball," said Mahomes. "So I thought Coach (Andy) Reid and Coach (Eric) Bieniemy did a great job calling the game and mixing it up everywhere, so they couldn't get a good gauge of what we were doing. We went out there and had a lot of success. We were in the red zone; we got punching in the end zone. I think that's what we have to execute going into the next week."
Mahomes finished with 382 yards passing and three touchdowns; Walker ran for 117 yards, and Travis Kelce led the team in receiving with nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
