Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III spoke with reporters on Thursday. He shared his reaction to being named AFC Offensive Player of the Month and his role as a receiver in the offense.
"It means a lot, but that's like a testament to the guys up front and everybody that's blocking for me, wide receivers, tight ends," said Walker. "That means they're doing their job and making my job and everybody in the running backs' (room) job a lot easier."
Walker totaled 442 scrimmage yards (360 rushing, 82 receiving) and four touchdowns (two rushing, two receiving) in September, becoming the first player in NFL history to score a rushing and a receiving touchdown in two of his first three games with a team.
"I could always catch the ball, so
coming out of high school and everything, I just didn't really have opportunities to catch the ball," said Walker. "Coach (Andy) Reid sees that I can catch and make plays in space, so I feel like that's like credit to Coach Reid, to seeing guys that can make plays like that. Yeah, that's all I can say, really."
Walker also became the fifth player ever with at least 175 scrimmage yards in each of his first two games of a season.
