Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jack Cochrane spoke with reporters on Friday. He explained the meaning behind his 'Coach Cochrane' nickname.
"Yeah, I think whatever your role is on this team, you have a job to help the people around you and understand what we're doing, not just how it benefits you and what your job is," said Cochrane, "but kind of understanding the scheme as a whole gives you a lot better understanding of what we're trying to do on a macro sense, and I think that allows you to play faster and know where you can play off guys and where some opportunities to take chances are."
Cochrane made a significant contribution during the Chiefs' Week 6 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers by intercepting quarterback Justin Herbert.
"Yeah, it
was play-action, just punched out, and front guys did a really good job getting pressure, and the ball came my way," said Cochrane. "So, you just try and do your job, and sometimes the ball comes your way. So, that's kind of my view on it and then try and score from there."
The interception marked Cochrane's second career interception. His 48-yard interception return is the sixth-longest in the NFL this year, and third-longest by a linebacker.
