Chiefs vs. Colts marked a significant milestone for NBC’s SNF coverage

The Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts made history in NBC’s ratings, following their overtime Sunday Night Football Week 2 matchup.

According to an NBC Sports press release, last Sunday night’s matchup averaged 24.3 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, based on Nielsen Big Data, including first-party data, marking the most-watched Week 2 Sunday Night Football game since 2015.

The Chiefs’ thrilling 33-30 overtime victory over the Colts featured five lead changes and 852 yards of offense. Kansas City's quarterback Patrick Mahomes led the way, completing 32 of 47 passes (68.1%) for 382 yards and 3 touchdowns,

posting a 114.0 rating. The game ended with kicker Harrison Butker connecting on two clutch field goals in overtime, electrifying the Arrowhead Stadium crowd.

The audience peaked at 27.4 million viewers on NBC and Peacock in the second quarter from 8:15-8:30 p.m. CT. It was the fourth-most-watched overtime game in 21 seasons of NBC Sunday Night Football, further boosting the appeal of featuring the Chiefs in nationally televised prime-time games.
