The Cleveland Browns won a tough battle in Tampa Bay when they held off their late drive in the final two minutes after their nearly two-hour delay. Their defense really came into its own in its second week of the post-Myles Garrett era. The main source of promise came from more pressure up front and better coverage on the back end.
One of the key contributors to their coverage was Tyson Campbell, who works alongside Denzel Ward on the opposite outside cornerback spot. However, Campbell had been dealing with an ankle injury, and while he was active, he did aggravate it some down the stretch and came off for stretches.
Now, heading into Week 3 against a dynamic Carolina Panthers' passing game, Todd Monken has hinted at his status for the game.
“We’ll see as the week goes on where he’s at, but I like his chances to be able to play, based on how he’s wired.”
Campbell has shown to be a perfect complement to Ward at cornerback on the opposite side of the field. And he talks about his wiring, and couldn't be more on the nose. The former Georgia defender is a big piece of the secondary, and it sounds like he will be around at this point as Cleveland looks to have a winning record coming out of Week 3 for the first time since 2023.
