The Cleveland Browns may have found their long-term kicker in second-year player Andre Szmyt, who has been very good since taking over for Dustin Hopkins last season. Since last season, Szmyt has made 36 of his 40 field goals (90% make rate), as well as 33 of his 35 extra point attempts (94.3% completion rate).
After missing 25 straight field goals yesterday, he stepped up with no time left on the clock and nailed another game-winning field goal to give the Browns their fourth win of the year and put them in possession of first place in the AFC North. After the game, he was asked if the winning feeling ever gets old, and he gave a great response.
"No, it doesn't; it's exciting. It's a love-hate feeling when you go out there for it. It's obviously
a lot of pressure, but that's what we train for, that's what we prepare for. You want to be in those situations, walking it off."
Szmyt remains one of the more consistent kickers in the NFL, and someone the Browns are lucky to have in today's NFL. When most of the league is looking for a reliable kicker, they have found one.
