Each week during this season of college football, we will be posting updated quarterback rankings for the 2027 NFL Draft. We are doing so because, barring an unforeseen change in how the Browns play the position, they'll be in the market for one come April.
To their benefit, the quarterback class is shaping up to be one of the better ones in recent memory, at least since 2024.
We will provide a top-five ranking, with players just on the outside looking in. This group already looks good after just one week, but it's only been one week. Deeper analysis will come later, so this is a more reactionary take with some added reasoning for their placement.
With the stage set, here is how things look after Week 1 of the college football season.
Just Missed the Cut:
- Jayden Maiava, USC
- LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
- CJ Carr, Notre Dame
5. Julian Sayin, Ohio State
Week 1: 21-25 passing, 320 passing yards, and three touchdowns

Julian Sayin showcased his accuracy and decision-making in Week 1. The game was against Ball State, which won't be impressive to most, but for a Week 1 game, he checked the basic boxes you hope to see. In Week 2, he will face a tougher Texas defense, and that could push him higher in the rankings. He will need to showcase those same decision-making and accuracy traits, but we need to see some more explosiveness from his arm to get him to be a part of the top-tier talent.
4. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
Week 1: 21-36 passing, 336 passing yards, 60 rushing yards, three passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and one interception
Trinidad Chambliss may not be the prototype prospect for the quarterback position, but I do not care. Chambliss just has something that you cannot teach or develop, and it is a mindset of "I am going to be the reason my team wins the game." Against Louisville, their pass rush beat the Ole Miss offensive line, but he used his awareness and pocket mobility to keep plays going and kept his eyes downfield. He can throw to every level of the field and shows accuracy while doing so.
3. Arch Manning, Texas
Week 1: 20-27 passing, 305 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and one interception

Arch Manning looked the part in Week 1 in that he was more comfortable, was able to process what the defense was giving him, and he trusted his arm to make plays for him. In Week 2, he will have a rematch with Ohio State, the same team that derailed his first start for the Longhorns last season. If he can look the part against a Matt Patricia defense that had his number in 2025, then it could get him firmly in the QB1 discussion universally.
2. Dante Moore, Oregon
Week 1: 28-37 passing, 378 passing yards, and three touchdowns
Dante Moore was the quarterback who was tested the most in Week 1. Boise State gave him everything he could handle, but he was able to maintain his stone-faced approach and put up some nice passing and playmaking down the stretch to secure the win for Oregon. I appreciate most his ability to maintain his excellence as a passer through adversity when his team is dealing with it.
1. Darian Mensah, Miami (FL)
Week 1: 27-30 passing, 401 passing yards, and five touchdowns
Only one game, but QB Darian Mensah aced his first test at Miami (27/30, 401 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INT).

No quarterback looked more dominant or impressive in Week 1 than Darian Mensah did. He made some NFL throws by showcasing his arm strength, decision-making, and mobility and awareness within the pocket. He looked the part and has a chance to be a memorable quarterback prospect and could work his way to a Heisman Trophy with an impressive 2026. Week 2 will likely be impressive all over again as he plays Florida A&M, but in the coming weeks, when ACC play starts up more, he will have a chance to cement his stake as QB1.
