The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Browns still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 8 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup about the team, and who they may add through the draft in a class many are calling one of generational wealth.
The Ringer's Todd McShay recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going with a new quarterback in Oregon's Dante Moore with their first selection. While the Moore pick is exciting, they also added prominent defensive lineman David Stone out of Oklahoma.
McShay explains the Stone pick, writing, "Former no. 5 pick Mason Graham is a force, and he’s coming off a five-tackle,
one-sack opener versus Jacksonville. But the Browns need another impact IDL next to him—and to create a stronger rotation. Stone is a strong, long-armed interior defender who tracks the ball well and rarely stays blocked for long. He can lock out with one hand, slip into gaps, and create more passing game disruption than his modest sack totals suggest. His pad level and closing speed limit some of his upside, but his awareness and ability to play in either three- or four-man fronts make him an appealing late-first-round projection. Stone would help defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg achieve the aggressive, multiple front he’s seeking in Cleveland."
Stone is an impressive run defender with some work still to do with his pass rush. He would be a fun complementary piece to their dominant defensive line and allow for players like Jared Verse and Mason Graham to get after the quarterback a bit more.
