Each week during this season of college football, we will be posting updated quarterback rankings for the 2027 NFL Draft. We are doing so because, barring an unforeseen change in how the Browns play the position, they'll be in the market for one come April.
To their benefit, the quarterback class is shaping up to be one of the better ones in recent memory, at least since 2024.
We will provide a top-five ranking, with players just on the outside looking in. This group already looks good after just one week, but it's only been one week. Deeper analysis will come later, so this is a more reactionary take with some added reasoning for their placement.
With the stage set, here is how things look after Week 2 of the college football season.
Just Missed the Cut:
- Jayden Maiava, USC
- Julian Sayin, Ohio State
- CJ Carr, Notre Dame
5. Drake Lindsey
Week 1: 31-48 passing, 279 passing yards, and no touchdowns
Minnesota
did not look great against Mississippi State on Saturday, but Drake Lindsey showed flashes of brilliance. He made several NFL-level throws and showed good anticipation and touch on a bunch more. Lindsey had a first-round grade from me in the summer, and over two weeks I think he's showing he deserves that praise. Week 3 against Akron should allow him to showcase his arm a bit more before a massive matchup with a tough Washington team in Week 4.
4. Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss
Week 1: 23-26 passing, 225 passing yards, and two touchdowns
Trinidad Chambliss did not have much of a showing against Louisiana Tech on Saturday, but he got the job done. It was a conservative gameplan, he wasn't tasked with improvising much, and that's okay. The SEC schedule remains daunting for Ole Miss, starting with LSU this weekend in the Lane Kiffin Bowl. If Chambliss looks good against LSU, then he may end up jumping into the top three.
3. Dante Moore, Oregon
Week 1: 14-29 passing, 191 passing yards, and two passing touchdowns
Dante Moore and Oregon looked lost at times against Oklahoma State a week after the Cowboys were dominated by Tulsa. Moore is still a top prospect, but something has got to give in terms of him being able to take over games. He struggled off and on through two games, and he hasn't even gotten into the thick of his Big Ten schedule. In Week 3, he will have a chance to right the ship against Portland State before a massive matchup with USC.
2. Darian Mensah, Miami (FL)
Week 1: 14-15 passing, 252 passing yards, and three touchdowns
Darian Mensah has looked explosive; he has been able to read what defenses have given him, and he has looked clinical through two games. Miami plays Wake Forest on Friday, which will be a tougher test than he has faced early in the year, but it should be another he aces. And not that this affects his draft stock, but he has more touchdowns in the year through two games (8) than he does incompletions (5).
1. Arch Manning, Texas
Week 1: 23-37 passing, 195 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception
Arch Manning finally passed a big test, and he did so in dramatic fashion. Down 20 points in the second half, he helped orchestrate a Texas comeback against one of the toughest defenses in the country. He took what they gave him, made adjustments, and now he has that weight off his shoulders. He now heads into Week 3 as my QB1 and can add to that lead by playing well against UTSA before he faces Tennessee.
