Week one of the NFL Season has come and gone, which means that the mock drafts have already begun. It's difficult to do them before the season begins, as it's speculation about who will finish where. However, for the Cleveland Browns, their pick always falls within the top five. One CBS Sports writer has them in that spot, but not staying put.
In his latest mock draft, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports had Cleveland pick fourth, then trade back with the Washington Commanders, who took Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. In this mock, Edwards has Cleveland taking Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey:
If the Browns miss out on top quarterback options and do not see a big talent difference between the next few quarterbacks, then it would not be uncharacteristic
of general manager Andrew Berry to explore a trade back. Cleveland has done a good job drafting over the last few years, but have lacked a level of competence at quarterback. Drake Lindsey operates like a professional in the pocket.
The opinion of Lindsey is certainly a mixed bag, so taking Lindsey at 11 would be sure to be deemed a "Browns kind of pick". We know that Cleveland desperately needs a quarterback, but taking Lindsey that high could keep the Browns stuck right where they have been for years.
