The quarterback position demands immediate performance and results to avoid negative talk or buildup. For the Browns, Deshaun Watson's play has been positive at times and negative during other stretches. He has failed to play a complete game this year, but the five game-winning drives have quelled some of the voices calling for his replacement.
However, whenever the idea of acquiring a top, young talent at the position is possible, it is an avenue that should be explored. The latest version of this is centered around Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert.
Recently, Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano included the idea of a trade in their notebook breaking down several pieces of league news. Within the piece, they discussed
the potential price it could take to get him away from the Chargers.
They shared, "Still, a front-office executive told our Gilberto Manzano that a Herbert trade would need to include at least three first-round picks, along with other items, such as lower selections and/or established players. The executive pointed to the Deshaun Watson trade and the Bears-Panthers trade, which centered on the No. 1 pick in 2023 and ended up being the Bryce Young selection."
It would be up to any franchise to decide if that would be worth it. If you are the Browns, do you pull the trigger on sending that offer to the Chargers with the potential of them saying yes and being invested all over again on a quarterback via trade?
